Our biometric readers recognise people - not credentials. This is done by identifying unique human characteristics: the size and shape of a hand, a fingerprint, one's face or several aspects of the eye. If the goal of an access control or time and attendance system is to control when and where people, not credentials, are or can go, then only a biometric device truly provides this capability.
